Who are we?
We are a group of volunteers who feel that the pet trade can be changed from a detrimental to a positive economic force. We think pet trade should not be banned, but it’s economic momentum should be redirected to serve conservation, raise awareness and appreciation, and benefit local communities in source countries.
Our goal is to:
-Investigate the feasibility of a quality-controlled certification system for sustainably produced exotic pets.
-Provide a platform to discuss the possibilities to make exotic pet trade more sustainable. We want to allow pet owners, pet traders, biologists and legislators to communicate on the topic of pet trade.
-Provide a platform where individual examples of sustainable exotic pet trade can be highlighted, and awareness for such projects raised.
But only for pets!
-Although the use of animals can also be for food, traditional medicine or other animal-derived products, we here only discuss the trade in animals for exotic pets.
